Quake AI concept: Snapshots

• Linode exposes instance-level snapshots through the Images and Backups APIs rather than as a Nova-style instance_snapshot resource. The Linode API summary shows `POST /{apiVersion}/linode/instances/{linodeId}/backups` for “Create a snapshot” and `GET/POST /{apiVersion}/linode/instances/{linodeId}/backups/enable` for the managed Backups service. • A manual snapshot is a backup of the whole Linode managed under the Backups service, while the Images product is separately described as taking snapshots of disks and deploying them to any Linode under the account. That is different from OpenStack Nova, where an instance snapshot is typically treated as an image capture of an instance rather than a distinct paid backup service. Overview of Cloud Manager
• Linode’s Backups service is described as fully managed and automatic, with daily, weekly, and biweekly backups available, and Cloud Manager includes an account setting to enable Backup auto enrollment for new Linodes. • The documentation distinguishes backups from Block Storage volume protection by explicitly stating that the Backups service does not cover Block Storage volumes, so only the Linode itself is protected by this snapshot/backup feature. OpenStack Cinder snapshots are volume-centric, so this Linode backup model is broader than a single volume snapshot but also leaves attached volumes outside the service.
