Deploy Trino with the trino template
Deploy Trino with the trino template
Stand up Trino, an open-source federated SQL query engine, on a single Quake AI instance using the validated OpenTofu template trino. You apply the template, run a smoke-test query against the built-in sample catalog, and wire in a Postgres warehouse when you have one.
Trino is the query layer over your lakehouse stack. You run it yourself; this is a self-hosted tool you operate, not a hosted query service.

Flat −$5.00/mo on the custom package (same promotion as named plans).
Included at no charge
These line items are zero on Quake AI. Many other providers meter them separately.
Data transfer (inbound and outbound)
Unlimited data transfer on every plan; Quake AI does not meter per-GB egress.
AWS, GCP, and Azure meter outbound transfer per GB. DigitalOcean and Hetzner include an allowance on compute plans, then charge overage.
Learn morePrivate networking
Private networks, subnets, Neutron routers, and security groups are included with the plan.
VPC objects are usually free to create elsewhere, but NAT gateways bill hourly plus per-GB processed. Quake AI uses router SNAT with no separate NAT line item.
Control-plane API requests
OpenStack API calls for provisioning and management are included.
Some managed services on other clouds meter API calls or charge for premium control-plane features.
Dev/test vs production
Start on shared CPU for dev/test, then promote to dedicated for production with a flavor resize. The network, storage, and template stay the same.
Dev/test on shared CPU
Burstable s1a flavors; suited to prototyping and low or bursty load.
Production on dedicated CPU
The headline estimate above; predictable steady-load performance.
Saves $99.00/mo while you build on shared CPU.
Shared flavors carry less RAM (m2a.xlarge (16 GiB RAM) -> s1a.medium (4 GiB RAM)). A resize reboots the instance; data on attached volumes persists. Size the dedicated flavor for the RAM your production workload needs.

Prerequisites#
You need OpenTofu 1.6.0 or later, OpenStack credentials sourced into the shell, an SSH keypair in your project, a copy of the trino template from the template reference page, and your workstation public IP for first-boot UI access.
Step 1: Apply the template#
Copy terraform.tfvars.example to terraform.tfvars, set key_name and ui_allowed_cidr = "YOUR_IP/32", then run:
tofu init
tofu plan
tofu applyRecord floating_ip and ui_url from tofu output.
Step 2: Run a smoke-test query#
Open ui_url in your browser. When the Trino UI loads, run:
SELECT nationkey, name
FROM tpch.tiny.nation
ORDER BY nationkey
LIMIT 5;Trino returns five rows from the built-in tpch sample catalog.
Step 3: Wire in a Postgres catalog (optional)#
SSH to the instance and create /opt/trino/catalog/postgres.properties with your warehouse connection, including connection-password. Restart the stack:
cd /opt/trino
sudo docker compose restartSee the Trino template reference for ClickHouse and Iceberg catalog shapes.
