Track issues, cycles, and projects on a self-hosted Plane instance. You operate workspaces, projects, and workflows; Quake AI provides the Compute instance, network, and block storage the platform runs on.
What this is for#
Teams that track work in a spreadsheet, a chat channel, or a paid seat-metered tracker need a shared place for issues, cycles, and modules. Plane (a self-hosted alternative to Linear or Jira) gives a team that place, running on infrastructure you own instead of a third-party SaaS. The outcome is an issue tracker your team reads and writes from day one, deployable from a validated OpenTofu template and its companion tutorial.

The base is a single validated template: Plane project management provisions the instance, network, and volume Plane runs on.

Team members. Developers, designers, and project managers track issues, cycles, modules, and views through Plane's web UI.

Reverse proxy. The edge reverse proxy template terminates HTTPS on a floating IP and forwards to Plane's proxy container on the private subnet, since Plane needs a public URL for auth callbacks and workspace links.

Plane app. The Plane project management template runs Plane's web, space, admin, api, worker, beat-worker, live, and proxy containers in Docker on a Compute instance.

Bundled datastores. PostgreSQL stores issues and workspace data, Redis backs caching and the realtime service, RabbitMQ queues background jobs, and MinIO stores file uploads. All four run as containers on the same instance, backed by a Block Storage volume.

Data transfer (inbound and outbound)
Unlimited data transfer on every plan; Quake AI does not meter per-GB egress.
AWS, GCP, and Azure meter outbound transfer per GB. DigitalOcean and Hetzner include an allowance on compute plans, then charge overage.

Private networks, subnets, Neutron routers, and security groups are included with the plan.
VPC objects are usually free to create elsewhere, but NAT gateways bill hourly plus per-GB processed. Quake AI uses router SNAT with no separate NAT line item.
Control-plane API requests
OpenStack API calls for provisioning and management are included.
Some managed services on other clouds meter API calls or charge for premium control-plane features.

Considerations and limits#
- You operate workspace administration. Quake AI provisions the instance; workspace structure, member roles, and integrations are yours under the shared responsibility model.
- A heavier stack than the other ops tools in this library. Plane bundles four datastores plus its own six app containers and a realtime service. The default
s1a.largeflavor (8 vCPU, 8 GiB RAM) covers Plane's own documented minimum. - Single-instance bundled datastore. The bundled PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, and MinIO suit a single-team deployment. To scale PostgreSQL independently, point Plane at a self-managed PostgreSQL instance.
- Flat egress. Quake AI applies a no-egress-fee policy for outbound transfer.
- Three US regions. All current regions are in the United States.
- Compliance posture. Quake AI holds SOC 2 Type I and Type II attestations and SOC 3. See Compliance and certifications for the platform scope.
